USS :: Announcing new Student Center & LGBTQ Center; Kerrey suspends USS’s authority

November 19, 2009
Dear Students,

The student government has done great things recently. Unfortunately, President Kerrey suspended us this week.

First the great news:
• Student Center. We are proud to announce USS’s proposal for a Student Center has been approved. This new building will open in 2010 at 90 Fifth Avenue above TD Bank with lounges, study space, and student offices.
• LGBTQ Center. This week USS voted to fund a LGBTQ Center with fulltime staff, which we are jointly sponsoring with the Provost’s Office.
• Research Fund. This week we launched a fund for student research. More details soon.
• Gender Studies Conference. USS is supporting a Gender Studies Conference this Spring.
• New Executive Committee. This week we elected an enthusiastic new executive board and are planning great parties and events.
We welcome you at our next meeting December 4.

Unfortunately, President Kerrey put much of this on hold Monday when he suspended USS’s ability to allocate your student activity fee, communicate with students, and meet with administrators pending an investigation of the student government. USS believes this review to be unjustified. To see what happened, check our website at http://www.newschoolsenate.org.

We want to be the most transparent body on campus. We represent you, and we want to hear from you. Visit our website today to read about the Student and LGBTQ center, President Kerrey’s actions, and to tell us what to do about them. Remember, USS begins with U.

Sincerely,
UNIVERSITY STUDENT SENATE REPRESENTATIVE BOARD
