Date: April 28, 2009

A Note to the New School Community,

I am pleased to announce the results of the University Student Senate (USS) election for the 2009-2010 term of office. We had a very successful showing with 34 candidates running for 17 seats. A record number of students (1,268) participated in this year’s election, representing 14% of eligible student voters. This is an impressive accomplishment for a University Student Senate that is just concluding its first full year in office, and it is an indication of how much our students care about being active in the New School community.

This year the University Student Senate has been actively involved with senior administrators including myself and Provost Tim Marshall. University Student Senate representatives serve on several university-wide committees including the committee that selected the interim provost and the Ad Hoc Advisory Committee to the Board of Trustees on Board Representation and Socially Responsible Investing. The University Student Senate is also responsible for oversight of the University Student Senate fee that passed as a referendum during last spring’s election.

The following 17 students* were elected to the University Student Senate for 2009-2010:

Tushar Gogi — Milano
Rachel Scharf — Milano
Chris Crews — The New School for Social Research
Eric Eingold — The New School for Social Research

I look forward to working in close collaboration with the USS to make a better university for our students. Please join me in congratulating these student leaders who will be working diligently to enhance the student experience at The New School.
