2011-12 Election Winners :: Drama
The following candidate was elected to serve on the USS for the 2011-12 year.
Sean Elias
Sean Elias currently holds the senate seat for The New School for Drama. While in office Sean has voted to fund numerous student led initiatives and projects and served as an advocate for social justice by facilitating a workshop during the Student Senate’s Social Justice Town Hall. Sean has also been instrumental in bringing about changes to the New School’s technological status, and sits on the New School’s Technology Committee. Sean’s greatest accomplishment in office was his creation and direction of the Intercollegiate Collaborative Arts Project (iCAP). This annual program allows the USS to commission students from all 8 colleges to collaborate artistically. The first iCAP, the staging of Marc Blitzstein’s The Cradle Will Rock off-broadway at Theatre 80, created a paid professional opportunity for students and faculty of The New School to work together in performance. This opportunity enhanced the culture and performance opportunities available at The New School for Drama by supporting intercollegiate collaboration and the creation of student produced work. In the future, Sean is determined to create teaching opportunities for students who wish to explore their craft at the intersection of art and education through partnerships with local theatre companies, educational institutions and the New School itself. Sean continues to lobby for the fair and accurate representation of his student body and a more time sensitive academic schedule, an improvement in the space available for students of The New School, and a stronger review process of the faculty and staff of the entire University. Sean currently holds a BFA in Musical Theatre from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia and an MA in Theatre Education from Emerson College in Boston, MA. Sean is a licensed teacher of drama all levels and is a current MFA in Acting candidate at The New School for Drama.
