Hello all,

My name is Anna-Karin Loureiro and I’m running for the USS to serve as a Representative of Parsons. I am currently a junior in the Design and Management program.

After taking an academic break from having studied fine arts, economics and philosophy, I enthusiastically transferred to Parsons in fall of ’09. In my first semester at Parsons, I had the opportunity of participating in the establishment of the university-wide Diversity Initiative charge. Through my participation I learned of various institutional practices that The New School could continue to consider, develop, and nurture, in order to deliver a truly cultivated 21st century university experience to students.

Having grown up in five uniquely diverse countries, I’ve learned to really value the importance of engaging openly with people, ideas, and cultures around me. I feel that these experiences have well prepared me for communicating the needs of such a diverse (in thought, culture, race, class, sex, and gender) student body at Parsons.

As a Student Representative of Parsons, I would hope to develop strategies that promote community and cross-division communication between members of the Parsons student body from an inclusive, full-spectrum standpoint.

I anticipate helping to strengthen existing student programs and look forward to establishing new proposals that would provide all students at Parsons with a sense of support and the ability to trust that there is a platform for their needs to be voiced and considered by the university.

Extras:
Currently, I work as a mentor in the Parsons Scholars program and love it, I have a terrible singing voice, a soft spot for dated art theory, and I’m a good cook!

Thank you for your consideration and please vote!

Hello Parsons Students!

My name is Fonzie Cuaycong and I am running to be your student representative! You may know me as the kid that served the pizza at many of the school-wide parties, and the kid that served the cake and blew out the candles at the Parsons Spirit Day, or you might even remember me as that kid with orange hat that is always on the run.

As some of you may or may not know, I am actually one of the current Parsons representatives on USS, while also acting as a leading member in our own Parsons Student Senate. Although I have sacrificed a good portion of my time to various forms of student involvement, I wouldn’t mind doing it again for another year! For this following year I plan to heighten communication between you, the students, and the school, so all of your voices, opinions, rants, and raves, are all heard!

I also hope to work towards improvements in the facilities that are provided to us as Parsons and New school students. While in this position, I would be serving all of you, so that you get the most out of your time at this school. So vote for me as your Parson’s student representative! If you happen to see me running around campus, don’t be afraid to say hello! I am that short Asian kid with a goofy smile and that bright orange cap.

VOTE FOR FONZIE!

This Min Seon Park, a rising junior next fall majoring in design and management at Parsons. As a Korean, I spent more than twelve years in China attending international school where I cultivated global insight, effective communicational skills, and understanding of other countries. I believe this is what is needed for such a diversity university like The New School. Being part of such a diverse university has motivated me to get more involved in campus life. I would like to promote diversity on campus: building a community through networking and communication with fellow students, faculty, staff members, encouraging student to become involved in their community, and raising awareness about university resources and how students can take advantage of them. I will actively participate and listen to the voices of my peers and do my part to make them heard. I believe I can be a positive member of our senate.

Jake Atchoo

My name is Jake Atchoo, and I am a sophomore transfer student at the Parsons school majoring in Design and Management. Originally from Michigan, I have lived in Arizona and Florida, and attended various schools of all sizes. Because of this, I feel I would be a good asset to the New School, as I can bring a lot of different perspectives to multiple issues. Even though I am a transfer student, I feel very passionate about this school and want to be a part of the changes implemented that affect the greater good. I am very sociable, intuitive, and self-motivated. I envision myself actively collaborating with students and faculty in order to secure both the school’s and student’s best interests. I believe I can do a better job at bringing the school’s community together. Thank you so much for your time.

Best,

Jake Atchoo

Maggie Martin

hey! I am originally from Toronto, Canada and I am in the Design Management program. In high school I had a lot of experience on student council, as a member of our council for five out of my six years at my school. I learned how to advocate for student rights by listening to the voices of students at my school in order to better the student experience. At Parsons I am particularly interested in uniting the student body and making school resources more accessible. Living out of residence in my first year opened my eyes to how difficult it can be to get to know and hear the experiences of other students that aren’t in your classes. I think it would be great to create opportunities to meet and hear about other student experiences in our programs and gain some advice from them about job applications and internship experience. I also think it’s important to take full advantage of the creativity that exists at our school and allow the student body to actively participate in coming up with creative solutions for school problems. Being in New York City as creative minds we all have so much in common and so much to share with each other and the more opportunities we can create to encourage connections to be made between students in the same and in different departments the more rewarding our experience will be at the school. If elected I’ll always be available to any students with concerns or suggestions and I will make it my duty to act as a true representative of the student body as a whole. Voicing your ideas and your concerns in order to improve your experience at The New School. Please feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions.
