2010-11 Election Winners :: NSSR
Chris Crews and Minju Bae were elected NSSR’s Senators for 2010-2011. Chris is a current Senator and has been re-elected.
Chris Crews
I’m a 30-something graduate student going into my third year at the New School, and my first year in the PhD program in Politics. I love cooking, writing and long walks in the woods. I’m originally from Ohio.
I ran for the USS last year to help improve the school and to support student power in the university. I am running again this year to continue that work, which is far from done. We still have lots of problems at the New School. But we have also made some significant progress. Consolidating our successes and pushing for more change will be my main focus this year. My platform for change includes:
• Increasing the dialog about racial diversity on campus (students/faculty/staff) and establishing permanent support (staff/programming/funding) for students of color.
• Supporting and expanding resources for LGBTQ students/faculty/staff.
• Pushing for more TA/RA funding, financial aid and academic support for students.
• Expanding the role and power of students in decision making at every level of the school.
• Encouraging interdisciplinary collaborations between departments and across schools.
• Strengthening student resources and organizations, such as funding for research and events.
• Taking a more active role in campus programming and event planning.
• Promoting environmental initiatives to make the campus more sustainable.
• Using digital technology and social media to engage and promote student projects and work.
If you want student leaders dedicated to student concerns, and with practical experience in how to get things done at the New School, then vote for me. Thanks for your support!
Minju Bae
Hi there!
I’m a new MA student in Historical Studies program at the NSSR, and I’m excited to be given the opportunity to run for the USS.
By being elected to an active student senate, I would be able to participate in a forum where I could bring my own ideas and personality. Beyond getting to know other students and their stories, I would be able to share some of what I know from my studies at the University of Toronto, my time abroad, and my recent experience in adjusting to the New School and this city.
What I have found most difficult so far is the lack of study space at the New School, particularly at the library. I hope to join the students with the similar concerns and work to make a change.
Also, I know what it’s like to be an international student. I hope to become a helpful and representative voice for those students.
I will do as much as I can to take any initiatives to promote diversity, positive spaces, and social cohesiveness in the student body.
Lastly, and perhaps best of all, I make mean cookies.
