I spend most of my time at the Jazz school and it is a very important part of my life. I would be honored to represent Jazz in the New School Student Senate. My involvement in jazz has honed my abilities to listen, improvise and collaborate in a meaningful way. Furthermore, my pursuit of a professional career in music has put my interpersonal skills to the test, building a network of people of all backgrounds. I am continuously working with others to create music in an active, yet fluidly-changing way that honors the tradition while being relevant to today. I view the New School in a very similar way: a place that honors its founding principles, but always strives to develop fresh and innovative ideas. Keeping in mind what it means to be a New School student, I want to have the opportunity to work with others to create change within the University. If chosen to represent Jazz, I will advocate for the interests of my fellow jazz students and be a voice for this small branch within the context of the greater New School community. Given my experiences within the Jazz program, I have a lot to offer to student government. Since I am a drummer, I am always using the facilities at the jazz school and therefore, am in constant contact with both students and faculty alike. Being a work study in the equipment office has also given me the unique opportunity to view the jazz school through varied perspectives. If elected, I will work hard to help students get what they want out of the New School.
